ACTION MARTIAL ARTS MEGA WEEKEND EXPO AND TRADE SHOW
JAN. 22, 23 AND 24TH 2016
ARTICLE BY WENDY L. JARVA
Action Martial Arts Magazine put on an exciting event over the weekend at the Tropicana Casino & Resort in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Despite the inclement weather, many showed up to participate in the festivities through out the day and night.
As a vendor, I watched from the sidelines as knights battled in full gear, children twirled weapons in fantastical displays of ease and confidence. High level Krav Maga instructors conducted seminars where participants learned current techniques to add to their own disciplines. Early Saturday morning, I ran into legend Ben the Jet Urquidez. My husband was a fan of his since he was a young boy growing up watching him fight on televised events. Ben stopped by my booth and talked with me about his career as an undefeated kickboxing legend. He was very soft spoken, humble and kind. Ben was just one of many legends I met over the weekend.
Friday night was the first time ever Grand Masters Dance Contest. Photographers and videographers stood on tables to capture the legends ripping up the wax on the dance floor. It was fun watching Bill “Super-Foot” Wallase, Don “The Dragon” Wilson, and Cynthia Rothro on the dance floor. Over the course of the evening I made many new friends and connections. I was a little disappointed I couldn’t show off my break dancing moves, but maybe next time.
Sunday, was a little more quiet. The weather caused many cancellations. I was looking forward to the Ultimate Grappler’s Challenge which was cancelled, but all in all the weekend was a success. SicChic® will be looking forward to attending next years Action Martial Arts expo and trade show.
